Benskin, Wendell L. – 1918-2009

Laurel — Wendell Benskin, 90, entered into eternal life while surrounded by his family at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center under the care of Iowa River Hospice on Thursday.
Private family services are planned.
Wendell’s family will greet friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Following a private family committal, friends are invited for fellowship at Laurel United Methodist Church beginning at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to his family. Those left to honor Wendell’s memory include his wife, Betty of Laurel; three sons: Steven (Ingrida) Benskin of Newton, Bryan (Janet) Benskin of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Terry (Kim) Benskin of Laurel; his four grandchildren: Angela (Dan) Hummel, Thad (Sherry) Benskin, Chris (Lisa) Benskin, and Carl Benskin; and five great-grandchildren: Devin, Blake, Taylor, Nik and Tom.
Wendell Lloyd Benskin, son of Bert and Daisy (Paul) Benskin, was born June 26, 1918. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1937. On May 6, 1942, Wendell was united in marriage with Betty Sietmann in Bethany, Mo. Wendell was a lifelong Mariposa township resident. He enjoyed farm life, and was a long time Jasper County cattle feeder. Wendell was a long time member of the Farm Bureau, and was associated with the board of Federal Landbank in the 1960s.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and researching genealogy. Wendell loved watching his crops grow and checking his cattle, and visiting with many fellow farmers.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson Wesley; and his sister, Bernice McElree.
