Margery M. (Thomas) Hansen Van Hoosen, 93, of Newton died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tom Burns of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax officiating.
The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of service. Burial will be at the Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville.

Memorials to the Howard Street Christian Church or to the Colfax Historical Society may be left at the funeral home.

Born on June 1, 1915, in Farrar, Margery was the daughter of Lloyd and Bertha Mae (Tomlinson) Thomas. She grew up in the Farrar and Elkhart areas, where she also attended school.

Margery was united in marriage to her first husband, Lester Hansen on Sept. 1, 1934, in Des Moines. Margery was united in marriage to Loren Van Hoosen on Nov. 13, 1971, in Colfax.

Margery was a homemaker. She was a member of the Colfax Christian Church, Red Cross, Pocahontas, Home League, TOPS, W.R.C., the Navy Mothers and the Golden Agers. Margery enjoyed gardening, canning and feeding squirrels.

Survivors include her four sons, Bill (Patricia) Hansen of Newton, Richard (Melinda) Hansen of Ainsworth, James (Norma) Hansen of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Eugene Hansen of Iowa City; her two daughters, Wanda (Darrell) Keenan of Grinnell and Mary Mohler of Newton; 23 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and her extended Van Hoosen family.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lester Hansen in 1969; second husband, Loren Van Hoosen; three grandsons, Richard Dale, Patrick Sean and Matthew; two brothers, Charlie and Hiram Thomas; and three sisters, Alice Battles, Phoebe Lester and Illa Snook.
