Sarah A. Smith, 76, of Newton died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Private family services are being held with the Rev. M. DeWayne Anderson of First Assembly of God Church officiating.
Memorials may be left in Sarah’s name at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton which is in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Everette and Flossie (Fridley) Davis, Sarah was born on Jan. 29, 1932, in Otter Creek. She grew up in the Melcher-Dallas area and attended schools at Melcher-Dallas. Sarah worked as a nurse’s aide for several facilities, including Nelson Manor and the Jasper County Care Facility.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her family, cooking, flowers and birds.
Survivors include her son, Rickey Smith of Newton; two daughters, Patty Harper of Newton and Nancy Eilander of Kellogg; two grandchildren, Misty (Darin) Van Sickle of Newton and Rickey Eilander of Kellogg; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Van Sickle, Ashley Van Sickle, Josh Eilander, Amanda Eilander, and Kendall Stevenson; a niece, Rhonda Van Brogen of Reasnor; and several other nieces and nephews
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, D. Ione Eggermont and Opal V. Swisher.
