Routh, Gale ‘Bud’ - 1928-2008

Gale “Bud” Routh, 80, died on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin of First Lutheran Church officiating. Family will greet friends following the prayer service until 8 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Ira.
Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Jasper County or the Salvation Army.
The son of Alden and Lillie Marie (Wickwerth) Routh, he was born on June 19, 1928, in New Richland, Minn. Gale grew up in New Richland and moved to Iowa in 1946, and had lived in the area since. He attended school in New Richland, Minn. He worked on the assembly line at the Maytag Company. He retired in 1986 after 33 years. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, riding horses, playing basketball and tinkering.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine Gearhart on Sept. 27, 1950, in Baxter.
Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Routh of Newton; two sons, Michael (Kim) Routh of Newton and Douglas (Johnette) Routh of Kenefic, Okla.; one daughter, Linda (Bob) Mahoney of Oxford; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice (Carl) Amos of Des Moines; and one brother-in-law, Virgil L. Gearhart of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Glen Routh.

Those left to honor Bud's memory are his wife, two sons, one daughter; four grandchildren: Joe Routh, Emily Routh, Wendy Hartz, and Will Mortenson; three step grandchildren: Tiffany Aziere, Nicole Bowes, and Tessa Price; four step great-grandchildren: Jade Bowman, Blake Aziere, Andrew Bowes, and Lily Bowes; sister, Eunice (Carl) Amos of Des Moines; brother in law, Virgil L. Gearhart of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
