GRINNELL — Fred Stanley, 84, of Grinnell died Dec. 12, 2008, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A graveside service and burial has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. Robert Cook, Mercy Medical Center Chaplain, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fred Stanley Memorial Fund.
Fred was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Poweshiek County, the son of Orville and Lucy Ferno Stanley. He was raised in the Grinnell area and received his education in the Grinnell School District.
On Aug. 18, 1958, he was married to Elna Smith in Newton. The couple lived in Newton before returning to Grinnell in 1996. While in Newton. he was employed for many years with Maytag. He was a member of the UAW 997 and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Elna of Grinnell; one brother, John Stanley of California; one sister-in-law, Mary Cook of Montezuma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charlie and Clair Stanley; and five sisters, Rachel Evans, Charlene Carmer, Christina Stanley, Barbara Bell and Grace Stanley.
Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is in charge of arrangements.
