Mary E. Long, 89, of Newton died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at the Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton. No services are scheduled.
The daughter of Horal A. and Agnes (Fitch) Doland, Mary was born on Dec. 30, 1918, in Lynch, Neb. Mary was a graduate of Colfax High School.
She was united in marriage to Virgil Long on Jan. 1, 1945, in Waterloo.
Before her retirement, Mary was a housekeeper at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Moose Lodge and VFW Post 1655. She enjoyed going to the Moose and VFW, and had served as an officer with both organizations. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, John (Rose) Long and Jeff (Krissy) Long, all of Newton; special grandson, Daniel Long of Des Moines; five daughters, Linda (Oscar) Frias of Cleveland, Texas, Carolyn Sue Buckley of Des Moines, Kathi Klingensmith of Newton, Virginia (Jim) Meek of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joyce (Bob) Long of Davenport; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Astelle of Newton, Alberta Long of Baxter and Gayle Morrison of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; two brothers; three sisters; and a great-grandson.
