Edward L. “Ed” Dalton, 84, of Newton died on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home. The Rev. M. DeWayne Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to the First Assembly of God Church or Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Richard E. and Mabel G. (Birkenholz) Dalton, Ed was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Rural Jasper County. He was united in marriage to Lois L. Dennis on Feb. 27, 1944, in Des Moines. Ed grew up in the Prairie City area and then after his marriage to Lois they farmed by Baxter. They moved to Newton in 1956.
He was a graduate of Prairie City High School and was a farmer and part owner of Green Acres Farm Supply in Newton. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Newton.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Dalton of Penn Grove, Calif.; his son, Vernon (Judy) Dalton of Newton; grandson, Jason (Jill) Dalton of Newton; two great-grandsons, twins, Kaden and Konner Dalton; two sisters, Alice Trotter of Newton and Patricia (John) Boening of Glendale, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois in 2006; and three brothers, Merritt, Harold, and Richard, Jr.
