Sally D. Core, 61, of Newton died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
As per Sally’s wishes, she has been cremated and no services are scheduled.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Jasper County may be sent to Mike Safris, 234 W. 12th St. S., Newton 50208, or may be left at the funeral home.
The Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Forrest E. and Ethelyn E. (Reynolds) Core, she was born on March 12, 1947, in Knoxville. Sally grew up in Knoxville and has lived in Newton since the mid-1960s. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School in Knoxville. Sally worked for the Iowa Department of Corrections in Newton for 25 plus years and was in administration when she retired in 2003.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Sally loved being with her family, she also enjoyed gardening and flower gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Safris of Newton and Brian Safris of Wichita, Kan.; her granddaughter, Emily Safris of Wichita, Kan.; brothers, David Core of Knoxville and Denny (Pam) Core of Clive; and her sister, Suzie Core of Dallas, Texas.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents.
