PLEASANT HILL — Ronald Dean Hunt of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Newton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born on Aug. 4, 1941, and grew up in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School. On Sept. 14, 1959, Ron was married to Sharon Mallory in Newton.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He worked at the Parsons Company until it closed. In 1977 he moved to Marshalltown and worked at Fisher Controls until 1994. He then worked at The Maytag Company until 2005. In 1998 he moved to the Des Moines area. He currently was working part time as a security guard at Adventureland.
Ron loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He belonged to the Altoona Christian Church, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He loved his country and always proudly displayed the American Flag. Ron will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
Ron leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Sharon (Mallory) of Pleasant Hill; two children, Rodney Scott of Pleasant Hill and Jodi DeAnn (Nelson) of Altoona; seven grandchildren, Nick and Ryan Hunt of Marshalltown, Carissa and Tiffany Hunt of Iowa, Mitchell, Mallory and Westin Nelson of Altoona; two brothers, Jay Jr. of Newton and Randy of Weatherford, Texas; one sister, Janet of Washington state; and many relatives and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Ron Jr. “Tink”; his parents, Jay Sr. and Neola Hunt; and his brother, Larry.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Altoona Christian Church, 3620 72nd St. NE, Altoona.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Ron Hunt.
