PRAIRIE CITY — Margaret “Margie” Jennings, 85, of Prairie City died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Skiff Medical Center in the Monarch Wing.
The family will greet friends on Saturday at the Prairie City United Methodist Church beginning at 1 p.m. Following the service there will be a luncheon served at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Prairie City United Methodist Church Building Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
Margie was born on Sept. 23, 1923, to John “Jack” and LaVita (Taylor) Jennings in Prairie City. She graduated in 1942 from Prairie City High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in zoology from Grinnell College in 1946. Margie was editor of local newspapers, The Pella Chronicle and Prairie City News, for many years. She was also editor of the Tipton Conservative for several years. She ended her working career at the Principal Financial Group, retiring as senior pension administrator in 1988.
Margie enjoyed nature, drives in the countryside and sports. She was a fan of the PCM Mustangs, St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved her family and friends and appreciated all that they did for her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Max; and great- niece, Molly.
Margie is survived by a sister-in-law, Marilynn Jennings of Prairie City; nephews, John Jennings of Newton, Alan (Cindi) Jennings of Monroe and Mark (Jean) Jennings of Prairie City; a great-niece Amy Jennings; great-nephews, Ryan, Daniel and David Jennings; and a great-great- nephew, Skyler.
