GRINNELL — Roy N. Kennedy, 78, of Grinnell, formerly from Newton, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Oswalt officiating. Burial will be at the Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.
Memorials may be left in Roy’s name at the funeral home.
The son of Robert C. and Mary Regina (Granquist) Kennedy, he was born on Jan. 3, 1930, in Newton. Roy was a lifelong resident of the Newton area. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School, class of 1948. Following high school, Roy served in the U.S. Navy and also attended radio school in Omaha.
Roy was united in marriage to Evelyn R. Savage on Jan. 1, 1954, in Newton.
Roy worked in auto assembly at the Maytag Company and was a member of UAW and Community of Christ Church (formerly RLDS).
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn R. Kennedy of Grinnell; his daughter, Debra K. “Deb” (John) Gerth of Grinnell; his son, Daniel G. “Dan” (Valerie) Kennedy of Farrar; grandchildren, Dustin L. Montgomery, Benjamin D. Kennedy, Shelby R. Montgomery and Gracie K. Kennedy; and step-mother, Dortha Robinson Kennedy of Stockton, Calif.
Roy was preceded in death his parents; son, Michael “Mike” Kennedy in 2006; and brother, Robert Verland Kennedy.
