Cleo S. Onstank, 79, of Newton died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, at the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton with The Rev. Audrey Young of St. Luke United Methodist Church and Delores Versteegh officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials in Cleo’s name may be left to St. Luke United Methodist Church or Hospice of Jasper County at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.
The daughter of Coy Marion and Audna Fern (Lewis) Shelton, she was born on July 15, 1929, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School, class of 1947, and also attended the American Institute of Business.
She was united in marriage to William Glenn Onstank on March 31, 1956, in Newton.
Cleo worked in accounting and bookkeeping in the advertising department at Maytag. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, American Business Women’s Association, Laurel American Legion Auxiliary, Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary, Lady Elks and the Class of 47.
Survivors include one son, Michael Lane Onstank of Newton; her two nieces, Betty Jane (Almer) Coulthard and Karen (Gerald) VandeKamp, both of Kellogg; two great-nieces, Faye Ruth Coulthard of Kellogg and Connie Jo (Brian) Miller of Searsboro; and three great-great-nieces.
Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 1992; and sisters, Mildred Markman and Roberta White.
