Funeral services for Bernice J. Ham Darrah, 82, of 2702 1st Ave. W., a resident of Newton for 60 years, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in her name or to an organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

She died Wednesday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center of congestive heart failure.

Survivors are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis R. of Newton and Duane A. and Margaret of Defiance, Ohio; three daughters, Jean (Mrs. Wendell) Holmes and Gloria Daughtrey, both of Newton, and Darlene Acuna of Tucson, Ariz.; 29 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a step-brother Robert Ham of Newton; and two step-sisters, Bernita Slavens and Phyllis Crutchelow, both of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis A. Aug. 14, 1977, a step-brother, Marvin Ham, two grandsons and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Darrah was a life member of the Cat Fancier Association and a life member of the American Cat Fancier Association.

She had worked at the Maytag Co. during World War II and for many years at the Maytag Cheese Factory.

The daughter of William and Dora Schmitz Ham, she was born March 4, 1911 in Lovilia.

She was married to Louis Alvin Darrah March 31, 1929 in Waterloo.
