BOONE — Patricia Grabau, 55, of Boone, formerly of Newton, died Oct. 27, 2008, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone with the Rev. Cory Stout officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Palo Alto Cemetery in Newton. Immediately following the burial, there will be a coffee time and visitation at the Community Heights Church in Newton.
Patricia was born on June 28, 1953, in Newton, the daughter of Archie Jr. and Joan (Nichols) Carson. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1971. Patricia attended Central College in Pella for two years transferring to Iowa State University where she graduated in 1975 with a degree in textiles and merchandising.
On May 31, 1975, she married Forrest Grabau in Newton. Patricia worked at Iowa State University, first as a clerk for dairy sciences in Kildee Hall and then as a dispatcher for transportation services. She retired in 1999 due to a disability. Patricia enjoyed sewing, collecting old dolls, watching movies, soap operas and taking care of her dogs. She also enjoyed attending Rendezvous with her husband. They belonged to the Beaver Creek Plainsmen, Inc. Rifle, and the Bluff Creek Long Rifles. Patricia had a collection of cast iron cookery which she used on Rendezvous and at home.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; and two brothers, Ron and Steve Carson.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Forrest of Boone; her mother, Joan Carson; a sister-in-law, Vickie Carson; and two nephews, Matt and Greg Carson, all of Newton; and her mother-in-law, Addie Grabau of Boone.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone on Thursday from noon until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
