LEON — Virginia Rose Weston, 84, of Leon, daughter of Jack and Josie (Cowley) Burris, was born on Nov. 3, 1923, in Linneus,Mo., and died Sept. 23,2008, at Westview Acres in Leon.
Virginia married Theodore “Ted” Weston on July 12, 1947. They made their home in Newton until Ted retired and they moved to Leon in 1993.
Virginia was a homemaker all of her life and took good care of her children. She liked to bake —cookies, pies, cakes — and also made fudge and divinity. She often picked up walnuts and used them in her baking. In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and the company of her black and white cat, Fluffy. She also liked to fish.
After her husband’s death on Feb. 26, 2008, Virginia first moved to Westview Acres in Leon, then to Eastview Nursing Home in Trenton Mo., before coming back to Westview.
Preceding Virginia in death were her parents; her husband, Ted; her infant son, Randy Linn who died at birth; brother, Marvin Burris; and sister, Mildred.
Surviving are her five children, Frances (Jim) Brewer of McHenry, Ill., Judith “Terri” Pollard of Des Moines, Pamela Dory of Des Moines, Michael Weston of Leon and Barbara Weston of Trenton, Mo.; her grandchildren, Jimmy (Kyla) Brewer, Saundra (Dale) Barclay, Nicola Curtindale, Scott Butler and Randy Cross; her great-grandchildren, Adriane and Cheney Brewer, Megan (Justin) Kelso, Brandon, Bryan and Ashley Renee Barclay, Nicolas, Chelsie and Joshua Reeson, Sabrina Edwards and Randy Cross, Jr.; her brother, Robert (Priscilla) Burris of Marshalltown; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with the Rev. Max Carmichael and Deacon Reinhold Kunze officiating.
Burial was in the Leon Cemetery.
