Ruth Schrader, 85, of Newton died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Ruth, the daughter of Roy L. and Rachel Ann (Kenworthy) Peterson, was born November 25, 1922 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Knoxville Senior High School, Class of 1940. Ruth was a homemaker and was employed by the United Telephone Company in Newton, Bellamy and Knoxville, as a phone operator.
Ruth had devoted her life to her family, and was a member of the local VFW Ladies Auxilary, and was it’s past president. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, her cat Sarah, her flower gardens, quilts and playing bingo.
Ruth died on Sunday evening, May 11, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother in infancy.
Those left to honor Ruth’s memory include her daughters: Judy (David) Robinson of Newton and Dawnetta (Don) Pitt of Marshalltown, Iowa; a son Charles Swayne; her four grandchildren: Kellie (Robinson) Evers, David Michael Robinson, D. Renee (Pitt) Sporeleder, and Terri (Pitt) Murray; eight great-grandchildren: Job, Suzanne, Dallas, Marisa, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Tayler and Blake; a great-great granddaughter Heidi Jo; and her many good neighbors and friends.
