Nora Mae Mackerman

Nora Mae Gauch Mackerman, 53, of Newton, died Saturday, May 5, at Skiff Medical Center.

Private family burial services will be held Wednesday morning at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Heights Alliance Church.

The Rev. David Presher, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Gary Benedict will conduct services.

Memorials to the Newton Community Alliance Hostess Committee may be left at Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter.

The casket will not be opened.

Survivors are her husband, Donn; two daughters, Donna May Jackson and Nora Michelle Mackerman, both of Newton; a granddaughter; her mother, Thelma Gauch of Baxter; two brothers, Max Gauch of Newton; and a sister, Judy Smith of Laverne, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister.

Mrs. Gauch (Mackerman) was a 26-year member of the Newton Community Heights Alliance Church.

The daughter of Leo "Jack" and Thelma Rankin Gauch, she was born March 10, 1937 in rural Baxter and was a 1956 graduate of Baxter Community High School.

She was married to Donn Mackerman June 24, 1956 at the Wittemberg United Church of Christ north of Newton.

Following her marriage, she resided on a farm north of Newton. She was well known for the chickens, turkeys and cattle she raised. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1990
