Dr. Peder Thorp Madsen of rural Melbourne, a physician at the Newton Clinic for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1983, died Friday morning, July 13, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Private services will be held.

Memorials to the Jasper County Hospice will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Ellen; six children, Ida, Frants, Britta, Christian, Susanne and Niels; three step-children, Fritz Maytag, Ken Maytag and Martha Dannerbeck; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers and a sister residing in Denmark.

Dr. Madsen, who practiced surgery in Sweden for 25 years, came to Newton in 1970. He became a United States citizen in 1973.

He was married to Mrs. Ellen Maytag in 1969.
