Roberta Stafford dies on Sunday; rites Wednesday

NEWTON - Mrs. Gary C. (Roberta June) Stafford, 42, of 114 E. 8t St. N., a resident of Newton since 1962, died Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Survivors are her husband; a son, Lee Theodore Stafford of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Christy June Stafford of Newton and Alicia Joy Stafford at home; a granddaughter; and her mother, Mrs. Gladys Marie Williams of Laredo, Mo.

Also surviving are six brothers, John and Jerry Williams, both of Newton, Bill Williams of Overland Park, Kan., Ronnie Williams of Trenton, Mo., and Donnie Williams of Moberley, Mo.; and five sisters, Mrs. Larry (Beverly) Leach of Newton, Mrs. Barbara Thompson of Grinnell, Mrs. Rayko (Bonnie) Zlateff of Prairie Village, Kan., Mrs. Betty Reed of St. Joseph, Mo., and Mrs. Merle (Beth) Smith of Galt, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father, a brother and two sisters.

Mrs. Stafford was an employee of the Vernon Co.

The daughter of Kermit and Gladys Marie Murray Williams, she was born June 16, 1940 in Cowgill, Mo.

She was married Dec. 8, 1961 in Miami, Okla. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1983.
