Marie E. Sparks, 82, of Nelson Manor Nursing Home, a resident of Newton since 1919, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1, at the Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Richard "Dick" of Newton; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, W. A. "Bill" Kinart of Newton; and two sisters, Lois Hoffmaster and Edith Reynolds, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd, Dec. 4, 1974, a son, Donald, two great-grandchildren and a brother, Ivan Kinart.

Mrs. Sparks was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

The daughter of William Arthur and Mary Ida Curry Kinart, she was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Jasper County.

She resided in Prairie City before moving to Newton.

She was married to Floyd Lavern Sparks Dec. 24, 1927 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1990.
