Virgil Wearmouth

Funeral services for Virgil Wearmouth, 85, of 418 S. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1928 were held today, Sept. 12, at Wallace-Pence funeral Home.

The Rev. Daryl Pals, pastor of the St. Luke United Methodist Church, conducted services.

Burial was in Newton Memorial park Cemetery.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

He died Thursday afternoon at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are a son, John K. of Renton, Wash.; two daughters, May Coleen Major Hensley of Des Moines and Judith Lee (Mrs. Bernard) Carnes of Glendale, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Vernon of Reasnor and three sisters, Inez Rojohn and Velva "Babe" Johnson, both of Newton, and Mildred Rawlins of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kathy in 1980, two grandchildren in infancy, a brother, Orvin, and a sister, Wilma butler Harper.

Mr. Wearmouth, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was employed at the Maytag Co., for 41 years, retiring in 1970 from the parts in shipping department.

The son of John B. and Ivo B. Mc Donald Wearmouth, he was born Sept. 17, 1908 in Mitchellville and attended Mitchellville schools.

He was married to Kathryn Frances Granquist May 14, 1930 in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1994
