Funeral services for Lessie B. Rhoades McMannis, 86, 512 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1939, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Todd Schlitter, associate pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Lung Association or the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

Mrs. McMannis died Wednesday morning at Friendship Manor in Grinnell following a stroke.

Survivors are a daughter, M. Kay Gruhn of Grinnell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Haltom of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Durward, in 1983, two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. McMannis worked at the Maytag Co. during World War II.

The daughter of Arthur and Laura Hendrix Rhoades, she was born Jan. 31, 1908 in Marion County and attended Marion County schools.

She was married to Durward D. McMannis Dec. 19, 1928 in Charlton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
