WOODBURY, N.Y. - Funeral services for Zola L. Lister Gallagher, 99, a resident of Garden City, N. Y., since 1970 and former resident of Newton, were held today, Jan. 30, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Garden City, N.Y.

Services also will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.

The Rev. Ernest Braida, pastor of the Newton church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Friends may call at the church from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and family visitation will be held following wake services.

Reese Funeral Home is handling Newton arrangements.

Memorials to the Jasper County Historical Society or Newton PEO Educational Loan Fund, c/o Janet Shields, 1033 Howe, Newton, Iowa 50208, will be accepted.

She died Friday at the United Presbyterian Home in Woodbury, N.Y., following a heart attack.

Survivors are a son, James of Garden City, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of relatives, including a niece, Jody Gooch of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, W. Neal, Nov. 12, 1950, two sons, Thomas M. and W. Patrick, a grandson, a sister, Mrs. W. B. Henley, and a brother, Jonathan Lister.

Mrs. Gallagher was active in the PEO, first joining the chapter in Dallas, Texas. Later she transferred to Newton Chapter HS and finally to Chapter X in Garden City, N.Y.

The daughter of W. H. and Agnus Wheeler Lister, she was born Dec. 5, 1895 in Newton and attended Newton schools.

She was married to William Neal Gallagher June 25, 1920. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1005
