KELLOGG — Olaf L. Young, 98, of rural Kellogg died Oct. 6, 2007, at his home.

A graveside service and burial were today at Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Jasper County, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Olaf L. Young Memorial Fund.

The son of L. N. and Emma Koger Young, he was born Oct. 21, 1908, on the family farm in Jasper County. He attended rural school near his home and later was a graduate of Newburg High School. After his education he worked on the family farm, where he continued to live and farm all his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Victor Grange in Jasper County and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include a niece, Bette Sample; a great nephew, Michael E. Sample; a great- great nephew, Michael W. Sample; and a great-great-great niece, Rami Danae Sample, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; and special friends, Patrick and Mary Jo Smith of Grinnell and their children, Matthew Smith of Grinnell and Monica Loupee of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Beryl A. Young and Hollis B. Young; and his life-long companion, Ruth Allen Adkins.
