LAKEVIEW, Ark. — Jack L. Harter, 72, of Lakeview, Ark., formerly of Newton, passed away at his residence Aug. 11, 2007.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Lakeview, Ark. Burial will be at a later date.

Jack was born May 28, 1935, in Newton. He married Sondra Hurley on June 11, 1955, in Newton where they spent most of their lives. Jack was a corporate pilot for the Maytag Corporation in Newton for 22 years and then was a Flight Inspection Pilot for the Federal Aviation Administration for 12 years in Battlecreek, Mich., until his retirement in 1999, when he and Sondra moved to Lakeview, Ark. Jack enjoyed canoeing, boating, swimming, fishing, dancing and spending time with his family and good friends.

Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sondra Harter of Lakeview; one son, Jeff (Robin) Harter of Newton; one daughter, Penny (Rick) Harter Lane of Mountain Home, Ark.; seven grandchildren: Talia Lombardi of Texas, Kristi Harter, Troy Harter and Jill Harter, all of Newton, and Joe Lionetti, Jessica Lane and Jacob Lane, all of Mountain Home, Ark.; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Dick) Harter Atwood of Newton; and his mother-in-law, Maxine Hurley of Newton.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alice (Hopkins) Harter, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lane.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church or Hospice of the Ozarks. Arrangements are by Twin Lakes Cremation Society and Funeral Home.
