MARSHALLTOWN — Evelyn Herma Harding, 78, of Marshalltown, formerly of the Newton area, died Aug. 21, 2007, at the Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown.

Evelyn, the daughter of Harold and Ester (Hall) Schauper, was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Maxwell. She graduated from the Maxwell Senior High class of 1947.

In 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage with Russel Paul Harding in Maxwell. They moved to the Newton area to live.

Evelyn was employed by Dr. Larry DeCook as an optician, as a Maytag secretary for Dr. Frech and later for Dr. Onnen. She devoted her life to her husband, family and friends and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton and Newton Bridge Club. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russel, in 1987; two sons, Craig Alan Harding and David Russel Harding; and three brothers, Robert, Bud and Junior Schauper.

She moved to Marshalltown in 2001 to be with her daughter MeriAnn.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, MeriAnn (Jerry) Harding Lansing of Marshalltown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Smith of Oklahoma; as well as numerous other good neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Friends may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton after 1 p.m. Sunday and the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be designated to First Presbyterian Church in Newton.
