INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Joy Isabel Christen, 86, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Colfax, passed away Aug. 31, 2007, at the North Kansas City Hospital after suffering injuries in an automobile accident.

Joy was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Valeria to Raymond and Etta May Buckley. She married George L. Christen in 1941, and moved to Kansas City. Joy was a personnel manager for Montgomery Ward and Company. After retiring she worked as a travel agent, where she enjoyed serving her many devoted clients. Joy was a member of Children’s Memorial Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo.

Joy is survived by her husband of 65 years; one son, Jim (Janet) Christen of Lake Jackson, Texas; two grandsons, Michael and Brian (Bevin); one granddaughter, Jennifer Christen; three great-grandchildren, all of Texas; three sisters, Josephine Bell of Colfax, Mollie Warrick of Valeria, and Violet Jean (Dean) Revell of Newton; two brothers, Arnold (June) Buckley of Des Moines and Zane Buckley of Davis City; four sisters-in-law, Kristine Buckley of Newton, Viola Buckley of Colfax, Leona Loveland of Kansas City, and Nancy Christen of Denver, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, Duane Paulson of Altoona, Duane (Alphy) Christen of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Dorothy (Del) Breckenridge, Jessie (Roy) Couch, Ruth (Homer) Revell and Carrie Paulson; two brothers, Ralph and Lee; one sister-in-law, Eleanor (John) Peterson; four brothers-in-law, Earl Bell, Clyde Warrick, Ray Christen and Milton (MaryEllen) Christen.

Memorial services were Sept. 2, 2007. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joy’s honor may be made to the Children’s Memorial Lutheran Church, 5001 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo. 64124.
