Funeral services, conducted by Ken’s son, the Rev. Clint Bryan, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton where a visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the Ken Bryan Memorial Fund.

Ken was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Barnes City, to Evan and Faye Trease Bryan. The family moved to Newton in 1945, where Ken was active in athletics. He graduated from Newton Senior High School with the class of 1959. After attending the University of Northern Iowa for one year, Ken joined the U.S. Navy in 1960. His four years in the military included marching in President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural parade and two tours in Cuba.

On Aug. 18, 1962, Ken was united in marriage to Beverly Ferneau of Grinnell. They celebrated over 45 years of marriage. Ken was employed by the Maytag Corporation as an electronics technician for 35 years, retiring in 2000.

An avid outdoorsman, Ken loved to hunt, trap and fish. He continued his interest in sports into adulthood through bowling and playing and coaching softball. Ken enjoyed rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He liked working with his hands, creating many beautiful projects of wood for his family and friends.

Ken, 66, died Tuesday morning Sept. 25, 2007, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, “Shorty” Schwab, Henry Borchert and Clarence Dow.

Those left to honor the memory of Ken include his wife, Bev Bryan of Newton; one daughter, Cori (Gary) Latcham of Newton; one son, Clint (Sally) Bryan of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren Tyler Latcham, Anna Latcham, Philip Bryan and Abby Bryan; one brother, Vern (Sue) Bryan of Newton; three sisters, Eva Borchert of Rock Creek, Ula Dow of Newton, and Lois Schwab of Colorado Springs, Colo.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; his wife’s family; and many friends.
