Burton Kent

Funeral services for Burton L. Kent, 62, of 1111 N. 3rd Ave. E., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Reese Funeral Home.

The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct services.

Military graveside rites will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood.

Prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Reese Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.

Memorials to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary's Bell Tower in Glenwood may be left at the funeral home.

He died Wednesday at the Des Moines General Hospital.

Survivors are his wife, Angie; two sons, Mike of Glenwood and Kevin of Omaha, Neb.; five daughters, Judy (Mrs. Dean) Meredith of Glenwood, Jane (Mrs. Allan) Langpaul of Omaha, Neb., Nancy (Mrs. Berkley) Greenwood, Karen (Mrs. Larry) Davis and Lee Soon Kent, all of Glenwood; a step-daughter, Debbie (Mrs. Jeff) De Young of Glenwood; and 14 grandchildren.

Also surviving are Jeannette Kent of Glenwood, his mother, Faye I. Kent of Newton, and two sisters, Donna Jo Edge of Newton and Mary Lou Sheeler of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd, a son, James D., and two grandsons.

Mr. Kent was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, Elks Lodge, Knights of Pythian, Rotary club, American Legion, Eagles Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Odd Fellows Lodge and National Funeral Directors Association.

A Navy veteran who entered serve (service? typed as written) after graduation from high school, he had served on the USS Philippine Sea II and had taken part in an expedition to the South Pole.

He had been employed as a mortician in Glenwood, Washington, Houston, Texas, and Farmington, N.M., and had owed a funeral home in Glenwood.

The son of Floyd and Faye I. Kent, he was born Nov. 2, 1927 in Newton and was a 1945 graduate of Newton Community High School.

He was married to Angie Harms May 22, 1982 in Houston, Texas.

He recently had returned to Newton from Farmington, N.M. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1990
