Joseph A. Knott

Joseph A. Knott, 88, of 212 1st St. S., a resident since 1939, died Monday evening, Oct. 1, at Nelson Manor of renal failure.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, will conduct services.

Graveside rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the elevator fund of the First Lutheran Church may be left at the church or the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Bertha, of Nelson Manor; two daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Wayne) Miller of Lake Mills and Joan (Mrs. James) Green of Ellensburg, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sisters, Kathryn Rand of Minneapolis, Minn., Rhonda Barker of Atwater, Minn., Enid Carter of Jeffers, Minn., and Edna Messenbrink of Atwater, Minn., and two brothers, James Knott of Alta, Calif., and Howard Knott of Atascadero, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Fred, George, Woodrow and Richard.

Mr. Knott, a member of the First Lutheran Church, Newton BPO Elks Lodge 1270, Izaak Walton League and Newton Camera Club, was a life member of the Tipton Moose Lodge.

He was a business man and construction supervisor.

The son of John Goodrich and Emma Asbury Tuttle Knott, he was born Jan. 7, 1902 in Primghar and attended schools in north Iowa and southern Minnesota.

He was married to Bertha Louise Werling in 1926 in Tipton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1990
