ALAMO, Texas - Cleo Whittaker Kenner, 78, of Alamo, Texas, a former Newton resident, died Monday evening, Aug. 5, at her home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Alamo Park Chapel in Alamo, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Gaylord; a brother, Homer O. Whittaker of Dubuque; and a sister, Iris (Mrs. Billy J.) Sayre of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Zelma Whittaker in 1945 and a brother, Harry Whittaker, in 1982.

The daughter of J. E. and Merle Call Whittaker, she was born Oct. 25, 1912 in Newton.

She was employed at Skiff Medical Center, The Vernon Co. and The Newton Daily News before moving to Marshalltown in 1953 where she was employed at Willards Clothing Store and in several other offices.

She retired in the late 1970s, moving to Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenner spent many years traveling in their camper.

She was an expect (typed as written) ballroom dancer, participating in that activity until three months ago.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Congregational United Church of Christ.

A 1930 graduate of Newton Community High School, she was married to A. Gaylord Kenner Feb. 25, 1946 in Missouri. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1991
