LISLE, Ill. - Memorial services for Joan Lahart Van Bortel, 29, of Lisle, Ill., sister of William Lahart of Newton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at St. Patrick's Church in Melrose.

The Rev. Mark Swanson will conduct services.

Graveside rites will be held at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

Memorials to the Joan Lahart Scholarship Fund at University of Iowa in Iowa City will be accepted.

Gilbert Funeral Home in Albia is in charge of arrangements.

She died Sept. 8 in a jetliner crash near Hopewell Township, Pa.

Also surviving are her husband, her parents, four other brothers, five nieces and five nephews. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1994
