Glenn Spencer Dies on Sunday; Rites Wednesday

Glenn Spencer, 80, of 815 E. 9th St. N., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Sunday morning at the Clear view Manor Nursing Home in Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.

The rev. James Conger, pastor of the first Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Ron Swedberg, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Survivors are two sons, Harry and Jerry; three daughters, Violet, Betty May and Barbara; six grandchildren; a step-son, John Nalevanko of Des Moines; a brother, Elvin E. Spencer of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Sexauer of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Geneva Nalevanko in 1972 and two brothers, Gentry in 1961 and Vern in infancy.

Mrs. Spencer, a longtime employee of the Parsons Co., retired in 1964.

The son of William H. and Dora E. Bingham Spencer, he was born June 17, 1897 at Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1978
