Lula V. Snyder

Funeral services for Mrs. Carl (Lula V.) Snyder, 83, of 115 E. 8th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1918 and a former teacher in Woodrow Wilson Elementary and in rural Jasper County schools, were held today, Oct. 29, at the First United Methodist Church.

Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Palo Alto Cemetery.

She died Friday, Oct. 26, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Wesley (Elsie) Barnett and Mrs. Hazel Flaugh, both of Newton; three nieces, including Mrs. Carl (Judy) Anderson of Newton; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two infant children.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers Society; Newton Woman's Club, including the Garden Department and the Evening Literature Department, and was a life member of the Jasper County Historical Society.

The daughter of H. J. and Ella Talbot Broderson, she was born Dec. 13, 1900 in rural Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School, the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley, Colo., and Drake University in Des Moines.

She was married Sept. 11, 1966 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1984
