PRAIRIE CITY, IA. - Howard R. Sheldon, 82, of Prairie City died Saturday at Des Moines General Hospital of complications of cancer. The body was cremated and no services are planned.

Mr. Sheldon, a retired farmer, was born in Elliston.

He is survived by his wife, Melva; two sons, James of Saratoga, Calif., and Joseph of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Jo Havlak of Fort Worth, Texas, and Molly Lyons of Minneapolis; five brothers, Marion of El Segundo, Calif., Luther of San Angelo, Texas, George of Des Moines, Gene of Tucson, Ariz., and Lyndon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Maxine Dengle of Des Moines, Dorothy Catterson of Johnston and Doris Onley of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

PRAIRIE CITY - Howard R. Sheldon, 82, of rural Prairie City, died Saturday evening, June 23, at the Des Moines General Hospital following an extended illness complicated by cancer.

Cremation followed.

No services will be held and the family requests no memorials.

Survivors are his wife, of 58 years, Melva; two sons, James of Saratoga, Calif., and Joseph of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Jo (Mrs. Frank) Havlak of Fort Worth, Texas., and Molly (Mrs. Richard) Lyons of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are five brothers, Marion of El Segundo, Calif., Luther of San Angelo, Texas, George of Des Moines, Gene of Tucson, Ariz.; and Lyndon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three sisters, Maxine Dengle of Des Moines, Dorothy Catterson of Johnston and Doris Onley of Urbandale.

He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

The son of Glenn and Mollie Sheldon, he was born in the Cornwall house, now Cornwall Museum, in Elliston.
