Louis F. Lenz, 88, of Kellogg died of a heart ailment Sunday at Friendship Manor in Grinnell. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kellogg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery.

Mr. Lenz, a retired farmer, was born in Kellogg and lived in Jasper County all his life. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Jasper County Farm Bureau.

Among survivors are his wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Dwight and Dale, both of Kellogg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Silent City Cemetery Association, Kellogg Ambulance Service or his church's organ fund. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily news, January 1995

KELLOGG - Louis F. Lenz, 88, of 218 East St., a lifelong resident of Kellogg, died Sunday evening, Jan. 22, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell of congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kellogg United Methodist Church.

The Rev. William Long, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in our Silent city Cemetery in Kellogg.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after noon Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Kellogg Ambulance Service, Our Silent City Cemetery Association or Kellogg Methodist Church organ fund will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Jane; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Sue and Dale and Sandra, all of Kellogg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lenz was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Adolph and Ernie, and four sisters, Emma Jacobs, Marie Henning, Clara Adair and Elnora Birchard.

Mr. Lenz, a farmer, was a lifetime member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau and a former member of the Kellogg Telephone Co., and the Farmers Co-Op.

The son of Carl and Lena Lenz, he was born June 12, 1906 in rural Kellogg and attended Glendale No. 7 rural school.

He was married to Mary Jane Shill Feb. 27, 1937 at Kellogg. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
