KNOXVILLE - Lawrence Wilson, 78, of the Griffin Nursing Home in Knoxville, a former Monroe area farmer, died Saturday, Oct. 16, at the nursing home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Thomas Bass, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Ken Mc Leod, pastor of the Knoxville Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Memorials to the Monroe Presbyterian Church or the Monroe Rescue Unit will be accepted.

Friends may call after noon today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, marvel; three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Lawrence and Patricia of Knoxville, Denny Ray and Karen of Independence and Rick D. and Beth of Pella; nine grand children; two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Arthur of Des Moines and Ray of Prairie City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Earl and son, Teddy, in infancy.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

The son of Don and Mary Timmins Wilson, he was born Oct. 9, 1915 in Prairie City and was a 1934 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.

He was married to Marvel Mc Daniel Dec. 15, 1938 in Newton.

They farmed in the Altoona area, moving to a farm in the Monroe area in 1956. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1993
