PELLA - Marie Wilhelmina Branderhorst Van Ryswyk, 97, of Pella, a former resident of Prairie City, died Thursday morning, June 24, at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

The Rev. John Gorter, assisted by the Rev. Siebert Kramer, will conduct services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Friends may call today and until noon Saturday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the "Back to God Hour" will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Margaret H. (Mrs. Marvin) Van Gorp of Denver, Colo.; a son and two daughters-in-law, Wilbur D. and Luella of Pella; and Norma of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Bertha (Mrs. Peter) Meyer and Maggie (Mrs. John) Schut, both of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hessel, a son, Hessel J., who was killed March 10, 1970, seven sisters, Pearl Blacquiere in 1933, Emma Van Dort in 1985, Gertie De Boef in 1975, Nellie Van Ryswyk in 1985, Cora Oostendorp in 1992, Johanna Monsma in 1973 and Hester Veenstra in 1972 and four brothers, Gysbert in 1896, Gerrit in 1975, William in 1976 and Gystert Branderhorst in 1976.

She was a former member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church and a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

The daughter of William Marius and Maria Johanna Vander Beek Branderhorst, she was born July 23, 1895 in The Netherlands.

She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 14.

She was married to Hessel D. Van Ryswyk Feb. 18, 1915 in Prairie City.

They farmed in the Prairie City area until 1956 when they moved to Pella.

Mrs. Van Ryswyk was a resident of Hilltop Manor North until moving to the Pella Community Nursing home a year ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1993
