Art W. Ver Steeg

Art W. Ver Steeg, 74, of 623 1st Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1963, died of cancer Sunday morning, Sept. 12, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Raymond Barnett, Pastor of the Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

Surviving is his wife, Marcella.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irene.

Mr. Ver Steeg had farmed until retiring in 1966.

The son of Nicholas and Barbara Harshner Ver Steeg, he was born Sept. 26, 1918 on a farm south of Newton and was educated in Jasper County Schools.

He was married to Marcella Masters Jan. 19, 1943 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1993
