Donald G. Van Brogen

Donald G. Van Brogen, 63, of Rt. 2, Box 242, Newton, a resident of the Newton community for 26 years, died Monday, July 19, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. John Moorlach, pastor of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in Mr. Van Brogen's name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Jean; five sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Rhonda of Reasnor, Gary and Deb and Leslie and Brenda, all of Newton, Daryl and Pam of Sully and Tim and Cheryl of Colfax; and nine grandchildren.

Also surviving are his mother, Gertrude (Mrs. Ralph) Von Brogen (typed as written Von Brogen or Van Brogen) of Pella; two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Marvin) Blommers of Newton and Joyce (Mrs. Paul) Thompson of Pella and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother in infancy.

Mr. Van Brogen, a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, had been employed on the assembly line at the Maytag Co. for 30 years, retiring 1982 and worked for three years for Stubbs and Sons Construction in Altoona.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping.

The son of Ralph Martin and Gertrude Meidema Van Brogen, he was born July 3, 1930 in Pella.

He was married to Jeannette Jean Miller April 15, 1950 in Fairfield. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1993
