Francis E. Snyder

Funeral services for Francis E. "Frank" Snyder, 85, of 626 W. 3rd. St. S., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the First Christian Church.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will be no viewing at the church.

Memorials to the First Christian Church or the American Lung Association will be accepted.

He died Tuesday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are his wife, Opal M.; a son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Alexis V. of Iowa city; three daughters, Ethel Ellen Buckalew of Mount Laurel, N.J., Marjorie S. (Mrs. Paul) Dubnansky of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Patricia (Mrs. Skip) Deskin of Ottumwa; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Francis E., a brother, Paul, a sister, Ethel Pennell.

Mr. Snyder, a veteran of the Army Air Corps, served during World War II.

He was a member of the first Christian Church, RSVP, American Legion Post 111 and a former charter member of the Optimist Club.

Mr. Snyder was employed as a pharmaceutical technician at the Maytag Co. in the 1950's and later was employed at Nollen Drug Store and Skiff Medical Center.

The son of Oliver S. and Margaret S. Hamilton Snyder, he was born July 5, 1907 in Sigourney and was graduated from Sigourney High School.

He was married to Opal Zimmerman Nov. 24, 1942 in Columbia, S.C. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1993
