Violet M. Sheehan

Violet M. Schermerhorn Sheehan, 81, of the Jasper County Care Facility, southeast of Newton, a lifelong resident of Newton, died Saturday evening, Nov. 6, at the care facility of respiratory failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, chaplain at the Jasper County Care Facility, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. today until time of services and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Jasper County Care Facility activity fund will be accepted.

Survivors are a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donnie, a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Sheehan, a homemaker, was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Women of the Moose and the Jasper County Care Facility Bell Ringers.

The daughter of John and Alice Myrtle Wise Schermerhorn, she was born Feb. 16, 1912 in Newton and attended Newton schools. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1993
