David A. Rexroat Sr.

MONROE - David A. Rexroat Sr. 79, of Monroe died Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Thomas N. Bass, pastor of the church, will conduct services and burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after noon Tuesday.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Mary; a son, David Jr. of Monroe; six daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Gary) Suplee, Donna Rexroat and JoAnn (Mrs. Kenneth) Acklin, all of Monroe, Charlene (Mrs. Richard) Mc Coy of Indianola, Carol Rexroat of Altoona and Janet (Mrs. Gary) Taylor of Lena, Ill.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald of Newton; and three sisters, Fern Rexroat and Marguerite Den Hoedt, both of Knoxville, and Helen Waits of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Freda, a brother, Walter, a grandson, and a brother in infancy.

Mr. Rexroat, a 12-year member of the Monroe Fire Department, was a truck driver until his retirement in 1970.

The son of Frank and Minnie Strahn Rexroat, he was born Jan. 12, 1912 in Dunreath.

He was married to Mary Birkenholz Oct. 27, 1934 at Prairie City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1991
