William D. White, 88, of Newton died July 12, 2007, at his home in Newton.

No services are scheduled. The Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials designated to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or sent to the family.

The son of David A. and Pearl E. (Teaster) White, he was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Kingfisher, Okla., where he lived until age 5, when he moved to Newton.

He graduated from Newton High School and was united in marriage to Margie L. Edwards June 30, 1951, in Des Moines. He retired from Maytag in 1985, after 49 years where he was a tool engineering supervisor.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #59, VFW Post #1655 where he was a Life Member and Past Commander, a Life Member of the BPO Elks #1270, a Life Member of the American Legion Post #111, and a charter member of the Izaak Walton Emerson Hough Chapter.

He served in the US Army during WWII as a member of the 305th Bombardment Group.

He is survived by his wife, Margie of Newton; two sons, David White of Newton and Donald White of Council Bluffs; one daughter, Diane White of Council Bluffs; two grandchildren; Zachary (Megan) Barnhart and Breanna (Jeff ) Reicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Warren White; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Gaunt.
