BAXTER - The Rev. Thomas A. Thompson, 86, of Baxter, who served as pastor of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ for 18 years before his retirement in 1976, died Monday, Oct. 28, at Colonial Manor in Baxter.

Graveside rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Visitation will be held, beginning at 5 p.m. today, at Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter.

Memorials to the family may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, LaVonne; a son, David of Des Moines; a grandson; a brother, Alton Thompson of Arcadia, Calif.; and a sister, Hilda Moore of Ventura, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Pearl, three brothers and a sister.

The Rev. Mr. Thompson, a graduate of the Moody Bible School of Chicago, Ill., and Wheaton, Ill., College, served churches in Dunlap, Avoca, Whiting and Clay Center, Kan., before coming to Baxter in 1958.

The son of Anders and Hansend Sorensen Thompsen (typed as written, but spelled Thompson throughout the obit), he was born Nov. 22, 1904 in Harlan.

He was raised in Dannebrog, Neb., and attended Dannebrog Public Schools.

He was married to Pearl Hansen May, 1931, in Dannebrog, Neb., and after her death in 1955 to LaVonne Hopkins Aug. 14, 1956 at Whiting. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1991
