From the Missouri Valley Times on July 25, we condense the following facts regarding the like and passing of Henry Shiley, brief mention of whose death appeared in the Clipper last week:

-- Henry Shiley died at his home in Missouri Valley, Iowa, at 9:45 p.m., Sunday, July 24, after an illness of only eight days. The deceased had been in ill health for many years but nothing serious was thought of his sickness until Friday, July 22. Up to that time most of his relatives thoughts he was in the best health he had enjoyed for thirty years. He was born in Seneca County, New York, August 22, 1832, came to Iowa in 1854 and, with the exception of six years in the west, had lived in this state ever since. his first stop was in Davenport, where he was in business six years. He then located in Missouri Valley in 1870 and was married to Marian James two years later. To this union four children were born, two daughters--namely, Beatrice and Mabel: and William all of Missouri Valley, all of whom were present at his funeral, but Harry, an older son who resides in Brooklyn, New York was unable to be present. The first brick business house in Missouri was built by the deceased and he was in business in the same building at the time of his death. In 1880, on account of failing health, he removed to Colfax, where he resided until about two years ago when he returned with his wife and family to Missouri Valley. The funeral services were on Wednesday, July 27, at 2:30 p.m., from the residence and were conducted by Rev. McAllister, of the Presbyterian church, of which the deceased had been a member since 1875 and the interment was at Rose Hill cemetery, in Missouri Valley. Besides his wife and children Mr. Shiley leaves 3 brothers, George P., John, and Douglas and two sisters, Elizabeth and Miriah. He was a kind and loving father and Husband and always active in business affairs even though his health was poor. The entire community extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in this their hour of sadness.
