Alfred J. Sille

Alfred John Sille, 55, of 1417 E. 10th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1989 and longtime former resident of Monroe, died Tuesday morning, April 12, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center of cancer.

Funeral be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert Hill, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Phyllis L.; two stepsons and a step daughter-in-law, Patrick Ulrey and Douglas and Lynn Ulrey, both of Newton; two daughters, Rhonda (Mrs. Tim) Edwards of Monroe and Lisa Sille of Pella; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Peters of Newton; a grandson; and five step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his mother, Opal Sille of Monroe; a sister, Shirley (Mrs. Eldon) Rose of Maynard; two nephews; and a Niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dick Sille.

Mr. Sille, a member of the United Auto Workers, local 997, and a former member of the National Guard Reserves, was employed at the Maytag Co. as a stockman in the dryer department for 25 years, retiring May 31, 1992.

The son of Dick and Opal Courier Sille, he was born April 21, 1938 in Otley.

He was married to Phyllis L. Matteson June 24, 1989 in Newton. ~ The newton (IA) Daily News, April 1994
