COLLINS - Funeral services for Myrna I. Telfer Schmitt, 60, of Collins, a longtime resident of the Jasper County area, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the Collins United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Penny Hansel, pastor at the church, will conduct services.

Friends may call after noon today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schmitt died Monday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are her husband, Robert; two daughters, Cindy L. (Mrs. Gary) Taylor of Forest City and Cathy L. Wilkinson of Belmond; and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister,Trula Telfer of Des Moines, three brothers, Bob Telfer of Colfax, Wilber Telfer of Prairie City and Ron Telfer of Cedar Rapids, and four half sisters, Edith Moore of Cadiz, Ky., Lois Stoner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wilma Briles of Mitchellville and Marilyn Elrod of Prairie City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Grace Shuey, a half brother, Merwyn Telfer, and three have sisters, Elsie Fatka, Irma Telfer and Vera Telfer.

Mrs. Schmitt, a clerk at Kum and Go in Collins, was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Walter and Myrna Bradshaw Telfer, she was born March 21, 1934 in Des Moines and was in 1952 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.

She was married to Robert Schmitt December 27, 1953 in Prairie City.

She resided in Colfax area until moving to Collins in 1956. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1994
