Verna I. Maggard

COLFAX - Verna Irene Meckley Maggard, 99, a longtime resident of Colfax, died Thursday, October 31 at the Clearview Manor in Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. John Mc Kinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in Mc Keever Cemetery north of Colfax.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Howard Street Christian Church will be accepted.

Survivors are son, Roscoe of Colfax; two daughters, Virginia (Mrs. Willis) day of Vinton and Darlene Pierce of Colfax; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Williams of Mitchellville and Edith Stayner of Colfax.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Loyd, a son, Robert, a daughter, Doris, a brother, Clifford, and two sisters, Myrtle Frey and Cora Wheeler.

Mrs. Maggard was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax and the Sunshine Club.

The daughter of Edward and Susan Curry Meckley, she was born September 8, 1892 in Colfax.

She was married to Loyd Maggard in July, 1911. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Ocotber 1991
