Verna R. Shepherd

Verna Ruth Shepherd, 66, of 508 W. 15th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1938, died Saturday evening, October 27, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Roger Kirkpatrick, pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are two sons, Kendall and Joe, both of Newton; four grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Durr of Grinnell; and a sister, Grace Durr of Embassy Manor Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Evelyn Kingman.

Mrs. Shepherd was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Clarence and Mamie Colhard Durr, she was born May 29, 1918 in Rock Creek Township in Jasper County, attended Poweshiek and Jasper County rural schools and Grinnell High School.
